For the last three years Oude Molen has been very privileged to be involved in the Afritwin project which seeks to partner similar schools in the UK, Zimbabwe and South Africa so that we can exchange ideas and practices and learn from one another.
Oude Molen has made the most of this opportunity by employing a restorative discipline system which seeks to repair relationships and get to the root cause of certain behaviours, rather than merely following the punitive route.
This year Michelle Edwards (from The Hessle Foundation in Hull, England) and Iliack Maparunga (from Goromonzi High School in Zimbabwe) came to visit Oude Molen. Ms Reeve will be going to visit Hessle in July this year. Ms Edwards, Mr Maparunga and Ms Reeve have started an interesting project where a few learners are selected and interviewed about their experiences of growing up in South Africa, Zimbabwe and the UK.
Ms Reeve and Ms Edwards are also spearheading an initiative to pair up teachers of the same subjects at the schools so that we can collaborate and share resources. When Ms Reeve goes to the UK in July she will be coming home with some new ideas and teaching methodologies.
