What's in a name?
Oude Molen is a secular state high school that focuses on Mathematics, Physical Sciences and Technology subjects qualifying for tertiary education in a range of science-related careers. Historically we were a school training artisans, i.e. what now is FET College work.
We offer a holistic education with academic and co-curricular focus. Try the engineering game to see if you'll cope. Take a look at the school's facilities and see our Vision and Mission statements.
We gain and retain the best subject specialists available. We are proud of having a close to 100 % pass rate in the national Senior Certificate examinations.
Subjects: Science and Engineering Focus
We now offer an engineering-focused course for the 21st Century, specialising in Mathematics, Physical Science and Technology for Grade 8 to 12, i.e. youngsters aged 13 to 18. We still use well-equipped workshops for the practical component of the Technology subjects.
Our learners are regularly the provincial Grade 12 results leaders in the Technology subjects.
We improve teaching and learning through the use of experiential electronic technology. We use
- interactive smartboards for general teaching
- computer-aided mathematics instruction software (CAMI)
- 'Crocodile clips' and 'Trac' specifically for science
- well-equipped Technology Centres
- TurboCAD for Engineering Graphics
- the Media-centre, hall and auditorium for large-group lectures and data-projector and Powerpoint presentations.
Many of our learners proceed to tertiary educational institutions to become technicians or engineers, while the majority join a family business or take up internships, often in the engineering or construction industry. Refer to our Careers page.
